NCI’s specialist maintenance team has vast experience in maintenance engineering and performing analysis to define the optimal Preventative Maintenance requirements for specified plant systems and equipment at which could potentially affect plant availability and safety.
This work includes:
NCI has developed considerable skills and experience in the procurement and specification of conventional and nuclear qualified equipment, spare parts and components.
This experience also extends to the qualification of equivalent components and the reverse engineering of components no longer available in the market, resulting in considerable cost savings to the customer.
The team also has extensive experience in the production of functional, technical and procurement specifications and conventional and nuclear plan as well as the classification of equipment and components.
NCI has a strong team skilled in risk and safety analysis. The team provides a core of dedicated PSA/Reliability experts with extensive experience covering the full range of PSA and reliability techniques.
Work undertaken has ranged from small scale assessments and risk analysis for plant modifications to complete Probabilistic Safety Analysis (PSA) for nuclear plants. NCI staff have been involved in several PSA’s throughout Europe and were influential in the development of the Koeberg PSA. NCI was also heavily involved in the development of the PSA for the new Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR) currently under development in South Africa.
The areas of expertise cover all elements of Level 1 and Level 2 PSA including:
NCI has also developed considerable skill in the use of the RiskSpectrum Analysis Tool.
NCI also has extensive experience in severe accident analysis. The analysis techniques have been applied to develop strategies for, and to design and implement modifications for:
NCI also has considerable expertise in the development and application of Severe Accident Management Guidelines (SAMG) for Nuclear Reactors.
The safety case and licensing team is made up of a broad range of nuclear engineers, physicists and other specialist consultants.
All members of the team have extensive experience in the nuclear power generation other major hazardous industries throughout South Africa, the UK and Europe.
The primary role is the production and modification of safety cases for clients in any plant area for all major types of reactor.
It can also provide valuable licensing support on specific licensing issues related to plant modifications as well as the construction of new novel reactor types.
The team has the capability to provide the required analysis to justify and provide substantiation to a vast range of nuclear an conventional safety cases.
NCI can undertake a vast range of specialised tasks and projects not specifically detailed.
This is because NCI engineers have a considerable range of experience and access to an extensive pool of highly qualified and experience nuclear engineers and other technical resources form our vast network of consultants and parent organisations for larger and more specialised tasks and projects.
Our approach is to work closely with our customers engineering staff to correctly understand their requirements or problems. In this manner, the most cost-effective engineering solutions are achieved, together with buy-in from the customer.
